Disney big expansion plans announced

Disney announced a whole slate of new offerings at its Orlando theme parks on Wednesday, including the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history.

Walt Disney World is about to break ground on a three-year project to expand Fantasyland. Among the new features will be a separate village for each of the Disney princesses. The Dumbo ride will also double in size, and park guests will be treated to a three-ring circus and carnival games while they wait in line.

The theme park is also planning a special promotion during nights this summer. In early June, the Main Street Electrical Parade will return to the Magic Kingdom along with a new fireworks spectacular. There will also be new lighting effects and a new drop sequence at Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney Cruise Lines is adding two new ships: The Disney Dream will sail in 2011, and the Disney Fantasy will begin service in 2012.

One of the ships will feature an onboard watercoaster that allows guest to ride on rafts through glass tubes high above the ship. In addition, Disney will soon offer cruises that stop in the northern European capitals, as well as trips to Alaska. Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay, is also getting a makeover.

Disney also announced a new partnership between its Wide World of Sports complex and ESPN. The two will work together to relaunch the complex with more interactive exhibits.

Disney’s announcement of all its new projects comes just weeks before the much-anticipated opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando.

Breathless boat out of service for maintenance

The Breathless II boat is currently out of service for maintenance. This will mean that the Breathless IllumiNations cruise and other Breathless excursions will not be available until the boat returns to service.

The “Breathless”, available from the Yacht and Beach Club resorts is a sleek mahogany Chris Craft speedboat which takes guests onto Cresent Lake during the day, and which provides an ideal way of seeing the Illuminations fireworks display in Epcot and the Disney MGM Studios fireworks displays at night.

The boat carries up to seven guests, plus a driver / pilot which is included in the cost. Since it has a fixed price per excursion it works out a little expensive for smaller parties, however at just over $20 per guest when full it provides an excellent way of viewing the various fireworks display.

Day-time excursions are priced per half hour, and work out around $80 per half hour. The evening Illuminations cruise takes 45 minutes, and costs $160 for the full cruise. Note in both cases this price is for the full cruise, and not per person.

The Breathless, and the float-boats can both be booked through 407-WDW-PLAY. (939-7529) with bookings being taken up to 90 days in advance. The Breathless in particular is almost always booked as soon as available, so if you plan to book the Breathless you need to be calling the WDW-PLAY number at 07:00 on the 90th day before you want it.

Bookings for the daytime cruises can be made with the Bayside Marina at the Yacht and Beach Club resorts on (407)-934-8000 up to 30 days in advance.

You can upgrade the floatboat for a celebration cruise for 1-6 people for $175+tax and for 7-12 people for $230+tax.

With the celebration cruise you can get a personlized cake, decorations and softdrinks or you can get just champaine with strawberries.
